MotLab

The MI practice gym after the course ends.

MotLearn Labs introduces MotLab — a practice lab for motivational interviewing.

You learned the model. Now you need the reps. MotLab is a private rehearsal room for Motivational Interviewing: talk with lifelike simulated clients who show ambivalence and pushback, get optional live coaching beside the chat, and leave with a practice snapshot — patterns and next moves, not a fidelity score.

Built for clinicians, coaches, and students who already care about MI and want deliberate practice without using someone’s real story as training material.

Free stays free · No practice partner required · Open whenever the workshop hangover hits

Inside the lab

Everything in the practice room

Six pieces of the MotLab loop — from the persona you choose to the snapshot you revisit.

01

Build or pick a persona

Choose a simulated client by concern and challenge — or build your own practice case.

02

Live conversation

A lifelike client that pushes back, minimizes, and surprises you the way real people do.

03

Live coaching

Optional guidance beside the chat when you’re stuck: what to notice, what to try, when to hold advice.

04

Practice snapshot

Plain-language patterns, examples, and next practice moves — for learning, never a fidelity score.

05

Your practice archive

Revisit sessions and notice the conversation patterns that keep showing up in your practice.

06

Values-based MI insights

Skill nuggets woven into feedback — for people who speak the language of Motivational Interviewing.

Why MotLab exists

Practice before the stakes are real Reflective listening and evocation are muscle memory skills. MotLab gives you a place to stumble, recover, and try again — before you’re sitting across from someone whose heart is actually in the room.

See what you actually did Every session leaves a trail: the transcript, learning-friendly counts and ratios, and a practice snapshot grounded in MI practice — not vibes, and not a grade.

The gym after graduation You don’t need another slide deck. You need conversations — messy, imperfect, repeatable ones. MotLab is for practitioners, students, and trainers who finished “the course” and want a place to keep sharpening.

How a session works

MotLab practice features: personas, live coaching, and session snapshots
